Bassman Bruce is a musician with deep roots in central Ohio
- his first pro gig was at 15 as an original member of the Bobby Floyd
Trio featuring Bob Breithaupt on the Ludwig trap set. He played in
various rock cover bands in central Ohio in the 70s. In the 80s he
moved in to the college music scene with alternative, metal and roots
bands in Tennessee, then with various blues and R&B outfits in Florida
in the 1990s. Bruce's finger-style bass ranges
from classic rock to back-in-the-pocket blues, funk and old school
R&B. Bruce's vocal range is tenor, similar to Michael
McDonald. Recent gigs include a 2-year stint with Al Smyth's Free
Beer n' Chicken Coalition, covering gigs for Soul Satyr and working the
Beatles/60s tunes with Peter Conrad of the Traveling BeatleBurys.
His latest projects include Laughing Rhino, a retro rock band and the
blues outfit known as Hard Luck and Trouble.
